Forget Picasso, Monet, and Warhol
– the best kind of art is the kind you can eat! This May, the world’s leading
edible cake artists and decorators are heading to Brisbane to show off their
talents and compete in arguably the greatest competition there is – the 2020
International Cake Show Australia!
The 2020
International Cake Show Australia (ICSA) will be held at Brisbane Showgrounds
Exhibition Building in Bowen Hills from Friday 15th May to Sunday 17th May and EARLY
BIRD TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW!
Thousands of
edible artists, cake decorators, cake bosses, professional pastry chefs,
bakers, chocolatiers, home hobbyist decorators and food personalities from
across the globe will converge on Brisbane to showcase their skills in multiple
categories across the three days, with the general public invited to view and
take part in a full program of masterclasses, activations, entertainment and
more.
Don’t miss
the opportunity to see Australia’s own sweet assassin in the flesh – Adriano
Zumbo! He will be joined by incredible sugar superstars including all
ten of the Zumbo’s Just Desserts competitors and past competitors
from The Great Australian Bake Off and as well as international
names like the UK’s Extreme Cake Maker Rosie Dummer!!
A highlight
will be a two-day, live cake-off challenge with Team Australia vs Team
International on the main stage. This fiercely competitive contest features six
of the world’s most famous cake artists including Margie Carter (the 3D
Cake Queen of Australia), Dorothy Klerck (South Africa), Molly
Robbins (UK), Emma Jayne (UK), Raewyn Read (Sydney) and
Queensland’s own Trina Thomson. The theme for this year’s
competition is “The Olympic Spirit” to celebrate the 2020 Olympic Games to held
in Tokyo in July.
International Cake Show Australia
CEO, Joan McDermott said the event was set to become a new cultural tourism
attraction for Australia, a brilliant cross between food, design, colour and
competition.
“The International Cake Show
Australia is open to the public and is all about creating magic, defying
possibilities and breaking boundaries. For the millions who watch Cake
Boss and follow the hundreds of thousands of edible artists on social
media, this event is the penultimate experience, and to have it staged here in
Brisbane as the national showpiece is certainly a coup for the city,” she said.
And the sweetest news of all?
Anyone can enter! Whilst there are a few professionals-only categories,
most of the competition categories are open to the public. There are
competition categories for beginners through to masters level.
International Cake Show Australia
will be hosting the “Ultimate Australian Cake Decorating Competition and on the
Saturday night of the show, the Australasian Cake Oscar Awards to celebrate
Australasia’s very best. Nominations are NOW OPEN for all categories including
the Haute Couture Wedding Cake Designer of the Year Award.
In addition
to the spectacular competition and general public programs, there is an
exhibition and pop up shops where associated food and product manufacturers,
distributors, wholesalers, food and product service agents and retailers will
display the very latest cake decorating tools, equipment, techniques and all
that is sweet.
